Community Harvest Food Bank—Feed the Fort October 7, 2010

In our Design Theory class we have been asked to design a plan for a donor recognition wall for Community Harvest Food Bank. On Wednesday this week we actually went to the food bank and saw the space where they would put it. We also toured the building and saw what was being done there. They plan on expanding the building and the new donor wall is included in this expansion. The food bank feeds thousands of hungry people in the nine Northeast Indiana counties.
Because of the economy there are more and more people who need assistance with food and so the demand is growing. A lot of their storage areas were bare. Here at Saint Francis we collect food for Feed the Fort and it was a reminder that organizations like Community Harvest need all the help they can get. Even if one person doesn’t have much to give (I’m a college student for crying out loud) it does help when everyone gives what they can. In our classes we collect loose change and last year it actually totaled pretty high.

Forgive the musical number. On the bright side, at least it’s informative.
Wondering what the heck that was about? Here’s a brief explanation:
I just added another sunset picture to my sunset post and it reminded me of something interested I just heard about. They’re called noctilucent clouds. If you break down the word you can kind of guess what it means. They are clouds that shine at nighttime. They are so far above the earth at night that even while the half of the planet they hover above is in shadow the sun hits them.

This summer I finally got a membership to Artlink which is an organization located downtown dedicated to the arts. It has several galleries and a bunch of shows all the time. I admit that I don’t know much about it and have in fact never been. My teachers have been mentioning it most of the time I’ve been going to Saint Francis so finally I am a member for the low, low price of ten bucks.
I got my first invite to a show via the mail last week. This show is called Local Vignettes: The Fort Exhibition which basically means six local artists have constructed forts and you get to see them. I have it on good authority you can expect some sort of mashed potato construction. So if you find this intriguing you should come out tomorrow night, the 8th of October. This is the opening reception and it lasts from 6pm-9. The show stays up until October 20th.
Their next show involves toys and book illustrations. I’m actually planning on entering this one. I have to notify Artlink of my participation by this Sunday and the opening recption is October 29th.
