I’ll admit it.  I only went to two of these four shows so far but I am planning on seeing the others and you should too.  First of all, if you are a bit slow and haven’t seen the amazing newly renovated Fort Wayne Museum of Art,  you definitely should.

Second of all—I can assure you that Maurie Papier’s show is pretty cool and you should definitely see it.  Even if you don’t know anything about art, you will definitely appreciate it.  Since I’m an art major, I have to admit, like all the others, “I had to go, I’m on scholarship.”  But I was actually pretty pumped about this one since I actually got to take Maury for painting before he retired and he’s a really cool guy.  As a side note, I met my two-year roommate in that class too before Residential Life even assigned us to each other.

I did this in Maury's class my freshman year

He works a lot in multimedia, and it looks like he layers a lot of his work and uses different watercolor techniques like salt to create really stunner effects.  His color palette is really freaking pretty, and all his compositions are strong and defined.  He plays with depth a lot too, which is interesting to me.  And he collages a lot things into his work.  What’s probably the most impressive though, is even though he layers all his elements together, they end up making a very solid piece and you can’t quite figure out what he painted and what he added.  Sometimes his images are so clean and well put together you can barely detect the medium.  Not that you need me to egg you on but…. Go Maury!
